I am so glad to see that you have discovered your family tree when you had so much missing! I am still looking for mine - have never determined for sure if my Legg's fit in with yours or if Legg is actually my true blood line.....it may be something I never really know. Reading such happy endings as yours makes me sad for mine....Geneaology is truly a puzzle and has alot of "secrets" that may or may not be uncovered! Thanks for sending this to me on facebook - I have only been on there about two weeks!

Dear Mary; I've enjoyed reading your story. We were classmates at West Junior and Sexton. There must be hundreds of children who cherish their wonderful teacher, Mrs. Foess. Your book sounds very interesting.

Mary, I enjoyed being allowed this journey into your life. I especially enjoyed the line that says: "I would soon walk through the looking glass, from the two dimensional world of the wrong side of the mirror where light is reflected from but not felt in its solar warmth, to the world where people are connected to each other by bonds of blood". It gives me hope that mankind will discover this fact that by the blood of Jesus we are connected. Then we will do better by one another. For now Mary, I have you as my example and hope today. I thank you for that. I now understand why you have been so kind to Essence.

Yes, my dad was half Armenian and half native American. There evidently is no African-American in him like I used to think. I've talked to my sister, one of his other daughter's, twice now and we are becoming fast friends and sisters. We already love each other and she is filling me in on complete history which is very extensive. Talk to you when we can. Kathryn

IN THE NEWS...

"Foess has spent years pouring over adoptive records, oftentimes being stonewalled. But she persevered until the layers she uncovered, the secret she discovered, and the shunning she endured led her to have an amazing love for her Armenian roots. Hers is extraordinary story that one finds hard to believe. It's about a young Armenian mother in America who had to give up her child for adoption during World War II because of hard times, and about that child's decades-long search for her true identity. The chapters reveal Mary's character."  Betty APIGIAN Kessel (The Armenian Weekly - May 10, 2008 Michigan High Beat)
